Give the gift of mobility to someone in need by donating today!
We rarely think about what it would be like not to have the independence of getting in our car and going where we need to go when we want to go. But for many, that’s not an option – especially for a number of elderly residents who no longer drive.
Prairie Hills Transit is a nonprofit organization and is helping to provide that independence and we invite you to join us!
Volunteer Opportunities On-call driverfor special appointments, special events, and short runs as needed, or at times our drivers are unavailable. We provide the vehicle. Commercial Driver’s License is helpful, but not required. Must pass mandatory drug test and driving record verification. Volunteer drivers can help make the connection that adds quality of life for someone who is unable to drive – whether permanently, or even temporarily due to injury, surgery, or some other unexpected reason. When public transportation schedules don’t always meet the needs of individuals with special appointments – such as chemotherapy treatments in Rapid City multiple times a week – volunteers can ease the burden that otherwise might fall on family members with busy or difficult-to-change work schedules. Even limited availability is welcomed from volunteers. Sponsora wheel ticket or a semester pass to provide rides for financially disadvantaged residents. The gift of ride passes can make a significant difference to a person or family struggling on a fixed income. (Tickets start as low as $13.50 for 10 rides).
Ride along with a volunteer driverto assist rider as needed … carrying grocery bags, or helping a patient get signed in for a medical appointment, for instance. Ride-along assistants can bring peace of mind to passengers and their family members. Additional volunteer options include: · Office duties such as filing, data entry, or helping with public relations or special projects at the regional facility in Spearfish.
· Helping with ongoing need for public support by means of fundraising, grant writing and public relations.
· Conduct ride-along customer-satisfaction survey to help Prairie Hills Transit better know and meet the needs of riders.
· Board of Directors as a way of sharing community involvement, experience and contacts to help Prairie Hills Transit grow with the region’s ongoing needs. Energetic, interested, dynamic people are needed to serve on the Prairie Hills Transit Governing Board or local advisory board of directors in Northern or Southern Hills communities. The boards meet once a month to review policy, operations, financial position, fundraising ideas, and to develop long-term guidance and direction.
Please call us at 605-642-6668 or e-mail Administrator to get signed up to volunteer!
